Frequently asked questions

How common is cataract or lens replacement surgery?

Cataract and lens replacement surgery is an established routine procedure carried out over 28 million times per year worldwide. There are over 1 million operations each year in Germany alone. The method is one of the most common and successful outpatient procedures.

Does the operation hurt?

Local anaesthesia is used to numb the eye. Patients may experience slight itching or minor pain after the operation. This normally ends 24 to 48 hours after the procedure at the latest.

How soon will I see results?

Many patients can see better just a few hours after the operation but there may be some blurriness for around 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. The best results are usually visible from the twelfth week, but this can take up to six months in rare cases.

When can I get back to work?

Usually one week after the operation but it’s best to ask your specialist for advice.

Do multifocal lenses have any possible side effects?

The success rate of multifocal premium IOLs is very high. Some patients experience some initial haze and fogging that often disappears once the second eye has undergone the procedure.

The unique, refractive optical design of Teleon’s multifocal IOL reduces the kind of halo and haze issue often associated with a diffractive ring-shaped multifocal design to an absolute minimum.

Depending on the lens type, you will no longer need distance, computer or reading glasses and may be completely glasses-free in many cases.

Can I have both eyes operated on at the same time?

Normally, your eye surgeon will implant the second lens shortly after the first.

Do I have to come back for follow-up care?

Typically, one follow-up appointment is required per eye. Your specialist can decide.
