How are cataracts treated?

It is not possible to treat cataracts with medication or alternative therapies. The only successful treatment option is surgery, whereby the natural lens is removed and replaced by an artificial intraocular lens.

As a cataract patient, your quality of life is significantly improved by this eye surgery. Cataract surgery is one of the most common operations with over 28 million procedures worldwide each year. It’s a routine operation with a very low complication rate that can generally be carried out as an outpatient procedure with local anaesthesia.

Cataract surgery is a short procedure that has minimal impact on the patient. You can usually go straight home on the day of the surgery.

Finally see better again!
A cataract surgery lets you regain your natural contrast and color perception and you can see clearly again. Use the slide image above to compare the quality of vision with and without cataracts.
